In May of 1997, the project was organized by Jeff Murphy, using the established KY Biographies Project as a model. State coordinators were sought to set up their own state project. They were offered the system design and tools created for the KY project, but were free to set up their project in any way they chose.
This page was created to provide a single entry point to all the biography projects. Volunteers were found to enter, edit, and archive the biographies for each project. My name is Steven Stymiest and I am the South Dakota Biographies state project coordinator. If you would like to volunteer to assist in entering or editing biographies for a specific county, please contact me.

I would like to acknowledge Jeff Murphy and all the time and effort
he put into getting this project started. We'll miss him being active
in the project on a daily basis but thanks to him many people will be
able to continue their family search over the internet at no cost.
